Mission Spotlight - September

Mavyn Royal | Missions

Missions are a large aspect of SmallVerse, just like the original game SmallWorlds. SmallVerse mission creators have been working tremendously hard and creating vast and expansive stories through their missions and I wanted to highlight a couple of my favorites of the past month!  Each title is clickable with a direct link to the space to play the missions!

“It Waits Outside” is a sharp, suspenseful mission that keeps you alert with constant urgency while unraveling the mystery behind its story.

You return home, lock the door, and brace for an uneasy night. Curtains drawn, routine followed, you try to settle into something resembling normalcy, though nothing is ever typical in a world overrun by the undead.

Anxiety claws at you, a gnawing fear that someone lurks just beyond your walls. You can’t stop checking the windows, making sure the door is locked tight, every creak and rustle outside twisting into something unnatural.

After shutting the cellar door on the unsettling noises outside, you retreat to the bathroom and try to steady yourself. Seated at your vanity, you’re jolted back to reality by a sound behind you. Panic drives you to your bed, where you dive beneath the covers, only to be greeted by a chilling, unexpected noise.

As you lie in bed, you suddenly come face to face with your worst nightmare: a zombie trapped inside the house with you. Whether it was intentional or not, the mission feels inspired by Jeepers Creepers, especially with the song playing during the finale and the monsters name at the end. It is an incredible mission, cleverly designed, atmospheric, and supported by a well-crafted story.

2. The Community Garden - Patrick Osullivan

You begin the mission by stepping into the garden, the air buzzing softly with bees and the chatter of birds in the trees. As you walk, you pick up the fallen fruit scattered along the paths, tidying as you go. With a smile on your face, you welcome new members who arrive to look around, while you continue tending the beds and gathering vegetables that have grown full and ready to share.

You take your time strolling through the garden, soaking in the colors and the quiet moments that make the place feel alive. The work is steady but peaceful, and it leaves you with a sense of calm. By the end of the day, you carry a crate filled with fruits and vegetables to the garden gate, setting it outside for anyone to take and enjoy.

This was a simple mission, but I truly enjoyed every moment spent in the garden, giving care and sharing its bounty with others. I love Patrick's missions and I can't wait to play more of them!

This mission is full of chaos! It starts simple enough, time to give your cat a pill. But the moment you try, the pill goes flying across the room. You call your spouse for backup, and together you attempt a clever trick with a ruler, only for the cat to wriggle free and leap onto the kitchen shelf. In the process, the curtains are torn, the ruler snaps, and a glass crashes to the floor. Suddenly, the mission isn’t just about giving a pill, it’s about cleaning up the whirlwind your cat has left behind!

You keep trying to give your cat a pill, but every attempt spirals into disaster. The cat scratches your spouse, drawing blood, and knocks the pills all over the floor. You gather more and even try sling-shotting one with an elastic band, but your cat dashes up a tree, and you end up calling the fire department for help. Just when you think you’re at the last pill, the cat hurls it straight into your eye. The mission finally ends when you make it back home, collapse onto the couch, and cry in exhaustion.

Despite the chaos, I truly enjoyed every moment of this mission, it was such a fun read, unlike anything I’ve seen before, and I know I’ll be coming back to play it each week.
